Life can be pretty hectic, and sometimes it’s difficult to remember everything you have to be thankful for. Fortunately there’s an international holiday to encourage you to set time aside to reflect on and express gratitude for the good things in your life.

In recognition of World Gratitude Day, observed every September 21, here are a few activities to help you see the brighter side of life and show your appreciation for others:

1. Every night, write down three things from the day you are grateful for. On rough days, read through the notes to remind yourself that things really aren’t that bad.

2. Stop by the stationary store to pick up thank you cards and keep them within easy reach on your desk. The stack of cards will inspire you to show your gratitude for even the smallest of favors by sending someone a quick note.

3. When you sign the receipt for lunch, write an extra note to the waiter complimenting their service.

4. Write a list of all the things in your life you have to be grateful for, but take it one step further by doing something special to appreciate the items on the list. Are you grateful to have reliable transportation? Spend the afternoon cleaning your car. Thankful an old sports injury healed? Go for a run after work.

The practice of positive thinking, including gratitude, will spread to all other areas of you’re your life, providing new energy and helping you to be more productive.
